Making video transitions count: A closer look at the techniques in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

We’re suckers for a good visual essay, and The Nerdwriter (aka Evan Puschak) does some of the best in his weekly video essays. His most recent upload takes a closer look at Edgar Wright‘s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and it’s a pretty fascinating to see the incredible ways the director uses video cuts and transitions to draw viewers into the story.

While there’s some impressive techniques at play in the film, there’s also just plenty to learn about the persuasive quality of a good transition, and the impact this can have on the viewing experience.
