Today we’re launching some exciting updates to Genero. It’s just the start of a new wave of tools and functionality to help you grow your filmmaking career!
We’re happy to announce a way to get more work on Genero with Direct Commissions! Clients can invite you to work using the “HIRE ME” button on your Genero profile. You’ll be able to pitch your idea for how you’d execute the job and agree to the budget, then the client will make payment and you’ll move ahead with the brief!
It’s easy to get started: if you’ve verified your Genero account, the HIRE ME button is already switched on and you can start receiving offers to work right away. If your account isn’t yet verified, it’s easy to do and only takes a minute: verify your account now! You can turn the HIRE ME button on or off from your profile or account settings at any time.
You’ll be able to use all of Genero’s tools like payment handling, production timelines, video reviews and feedback, release forms and messaging to manage your project collaboratively with your team and client, both on Genero and using our mobile app.
We have a big pipeline of new features and platform tools we’ll be launching to help manage your filmmaking business and we’d love to hear your feedback and ideas!
We will soon be providing our filmmakers with both public liability and professional indemnity insurance for all productions commissioned via Genero.
Subject to a small amount of exclusions, you’ll be automatically insured when you’re commissioned on Genero so you don’t have to worry about organising and paying for your own insurance.
We’re currently finalising the details but this will be launching very soon. We’ll share all of the details as soon as they’re ready.
We’ve updated our site terms to cover the new services we’re providing and to make it easier to understand the Genero Terms of Service. There’s a lot of detail, but we recommend that you read these carefully to make sure you understand them!
Genero is completely free for filmmakers to pitch for work, build your profile, and use our Community features like commenting and discussions (we don’t charge any subscription or registration fees). As part of the new terms, we’re introducing a 10% filmmaker service fee to cover some of the costs of bringing you filmmaking opportunities, insurance, payment handling etc. This is only charged when you’re getting paid work on Genero, so we don’t get paid unless you get paid.
Please note that we always clearly mark the full amount you will receive for your work as the “filmmaker payment”. That full amount will be paid to you (minus any Payoneer or exchange fees as applicable).
Just let us know if you have any questions, comments or suggestions on any of the news above. We’re working hard on more updates to Genero and your feedback is always hugely appreciated!
