The Brief

Everyone's favourite punk rockers are back with a brand new album and a summer that's jam packed with festival appearances. Your video could be chosen as the band's official accompaniment to their next single, 'Revolution'. Get your thinking caps on as there are only five weeks until judgement day! The band will be involved in choosing the finalist and winning videos, with two of the finalists to be chosen based upon Facebook 'Likes'. The single is taken from the band's new album Speed of Darkness and, for those that haven't travelled the distance with this hard rocking 7-piece.

THE LIGHTS HAVE GONE OUT ON THE WORKING CLASS

Three years ago, hard working men and women the world over were collectively under the assumption that their nest eggs were secure, their homes were the safest of all investments, and that the economy was on the upswing. Then, with virtually no warning, their lives were turned upside down. An entire generation saw their dreams dashed and plans dismantled. It all happened with the Speed of Darkness.

Written during the trough of what has now been labeled ‘the great recession’, Speed of Darkness “wasn’t the album we set out to write,” according to singer/songwriter Dave King. “It became the album we had to write.”

As the proletariats of the world found themselves in an unexpected fight to hold on to their jobs and stay afloat, Speed of Darkness evolved into odes to the working man, to battle cries against the elite establishment that so quickly and callously cast him aside.

The album was recorded at Echo Mountain Recording Studio, which is housed in a converted church in Asheville, North Carolina. The setting underscored a record that continually asks hard questions of faith, suffering, belief and deliverance.

Speed of Darkness is a testament to the resilience of youth, to growing old and the wisdom of scars. Yet for all of the record’s darkness, and the speed with which it descends, the ultimate theme is one of light - we can persevere. We must, and we will, persevere.
