The Brief

HOOQ is looking for Asia-based filmmakers to create a unique TV series to stream on HOOQ.

Overall there are eight briefs running simultaneously for HOOQ to find five filmmakers throughout South East Asia (Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and Cambodia) to create relevant content for each market.

HOOQ intend to commission five filmmakers to create pilot episodes from across the eight briefs. The best performing pilot episode will then be given additional budget to produce the full series.

Further Details

At this stage, filmmakers are invited to pitch their pilot idea and treatment for a series that would be relevant and resonate with viewers across Asia. The winning pilot will get the entire series produced by HOOQ. Each pilot can be as short as 20 minutes or up to 60 minutes long.

Our panel of esteemed judges will review the ideas and scripts and the best five ideas from around the region will be given USD 30,000 each to produce their pilot. All pilots will then make their way onto HOOQ for the judges and HOOQ subscribers to decide which is the best pilot where the entire series will be produced for HOOQ. The series could consist of between four episodes or up to thirteen episodes for an entire season.

Mechanics

We would like filmmakers to clearly outline their idea via a creative treatment and a sample of the script (at least 10 pages) along with examples of your work and showreel. Whilst we are only looking for a pitch for a pilot, it is worth thinking about how you would develop this further into a full series.

Treatments will be reviewed dependent on 'local' expertise, and filmmakers should only pitch if they have experience shooting in the destination and their concept is culturally relevant.

Creative Direction

Series made for TV within South-East-Asia are generally conservative, and as HOOQ content is streamed digitally, we have an opportunity for the original content to be more edgy and expressive in the choice of subject and genre.

HOOQ have not specified the genre for the content, but the series must feel local and culturally relevant to each market.

Here's an example of HOOQ's latest original content that was created for the Philippines.
