Making the most of Genero

Using Genero • Written by Daria Willis, Creative Strategist

Hey there, early adopter. If you’re reading this, we think you’re pretty cool. You’re not afraid to do things differently, break the status quo. Like using Genero for your content creation needs.

Once you’re on the platform – it’s smooth sailing. As you’ll see, the tech is pretty intuitive. But, just like the first time you used Netflix, unboxed your brand new iPhone or ordered your first burrito on UberEats – it helps to know a few tips to getting the most out of the platform.

Before you write your brief:

1. Talk to your regional Genero team: We can help you scope out what’s needed and give you guidance on budgets before your brief goes live.

2. Think about your service level: Think carefully about the level of support you’ll need once your brief is live. Remember, money is time, and yours is valuable! Buying a little more of our time can free up yours. Our team are super experienced with the production process, and we’re here to help.

3. Be realistic with your budget: Yep, that old chestnut. Be wary of having champagne taste on a beer budget! Do you need live action, or might animation work? The number of deliverables, locations and talent you’re after will also have an impact.

4. Share as much as possible: Have an idea, reference or certain style you like? Share them in your brief! Share previous work, guidelines and learnings. Remember, the more you put into a brief the more you’ll get out of it.

When reviewing treatments:

1. Embrace diversity: One of the key benefits of working with Genero is having access to an abundance of different ideas, coming from creatives all over the world. Diversity fuels creativity, and embracing it is good for your brand as well as the wider industry!

2. Be bold: The old adage ‘insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results’ is true even in marketing. Take a chance and pick that big idea – your Genero team is here to make sure it’s a success, no matter how wild it is. And your customers will thank you for it.

3. Put our tools to use:
• Feedback is your friend! You and your team can use tags to highlight what you think works or what could be improved. As well as being valuable feedback for the creator, an overview of the tags will help you identify strong pitches from your treatment list.
• The private notes section is a great place to jot down your thoughts about treatments and see what others in your team and the Genero team think too.
• Get shortlisting! Adding your favourite treatments to your shortlist makes it easy to access a list of all stakeholders favourite submissions, so you don’t forget the ones you loved.

4. Don’t be shy, chat to the creatives: Feel free to communicate and develop ideas with creatives who submit treatments to make sure you’re happy before you commission.

5. Be proactive about timeline changes: Great work shouldn’t be rushed, we get it. So if you need more time to pick an idea – just let your Genero team know and they’ll update the creatives who have submitted treatments.

6. Share a note with unsuccessful creators: They have taken the time to respond to your brief and will want to know what to do better next time. When you’re declining treatments, a short note to say thanks or explaining what made the winning selection the best goes a long way. Any extra personalised feedback (particularly for your shortlist!) is a huge bonus.

During and after production:

1. Keep it on the platform: This is an important one. Keeping messages on the platform will ensure we’re able to help in making things go as smoothly as possible, and it will also make sure you’re completely covered within our terms.

2. Get connected: Download the Genero app to respond to messages and view edits on the go.

3. Use the platform tools: They’re there to make your life easier. Providing feedback on videos, for example, has never been so simple. It’s all time-stamped and super collaborative. Get to know this feature and all the others on the platform throughout your production process.

4. Release payments like a boss: Ever wish there was one button that controlled your entire procurement process? Well, there is. The release button on the timeline! Agree on progress payments with the creative team – and you can release at your leisure.
