Junior Software Engineer

Melbourne, Australia

About Genero

Genero is a disruptive creative technology business, focused on providing brands with an agile, efficient, technology powered solution to scale digital content production.

Our creative ecosystem combines a global professional creative network with a software platform and streamlined end-to-end workflow, providing marketing teams unparalleled speed, cost, quality, and efficiency.

We have teams across EMEA, the Americas, and APAC, and our growing client base includes Google, Meta, TikTok, L’Oreal, Hilton, and the BBC. With a strong foundation in the music industry, we’ve also worked with every major record label and global music artists including Muse, George Harrison, The Doors, James Brown, Moby, Alicia Keys, and Robert Plant.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an innovative, dynamic and growing global company, head-quartered in Melbourne.

The role

At Genero, we use a modern and proven tech stack: our front-end application is written in React, and powered by a Node.js microservice architecture, with GraphQL tying it all together. We’re looking at hiring proactive engineers to help us continue to build and improve all aspects of our product.

As part of our development team, you’ll be working closely with our design and product team to develop innovative and world-class tools for brands looking for a more creative and agile approach to video content production.

You’ll have the opportunity to take significant ownership of your work and directly impact our codebase and infrastructure in our small, collaborative team. We prioritise having a great developer experience, encouraging everyone to continuously improve the process. By treating DevOps as a shared responsibility, we foster a culture of innovation and ensure that all team members have the support they need to do their best work.

The role is primarily remote, however, we also value in-person collaboration and team building which we organise on a regular basis.

On a day to day basis, you will:

  • Contribute ideas to help build and improve all areas of our technology stack
  • Work with design and product colleagues, to build and support our platform
  • Work in a team to solve challenging problems
  • Write clean, tested, performant, and reusable code
  • Debug, monitor and analyse software running in production, helping to keep all our systems healthy

Required skills and experience:

  • Experience with React
  • An understanding of server-side languages, particularly Node.js
  • Strong front-end skills, with the ability to deliver mobile, responsive, and accessible designs
  • An eagerness to learn new languages, frameworks, and tools
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Knowledge or experience in the following would be a bonus:

  • TypeScript
  • GraphQL and Apollo (client and server)
  • Comfortable working with a Unix like environment
  • Leveraging AI tools for coding problems
  • Testing tools such as Jest, React Testing Library and Cypress
  • Cloud platforms – we use Google Cloud Platform but experience with any is a plus
  • Containerisation tools including Kubernetes, Helm and Docker
  • SQL and NoSQL databases, including MySQL and Firestore
  • CI/CD and build tools like CircleCI
  • Package management and bundling tools including Webpack

You should be a proactive, results-driven engineer with an eye for detail. You will be constantly challenging your skills and improving your craft as a software engineer.

Applicants must have full rights to work in Australia.

Please include a cover letter along with your resume when applying.

Diversity is at the heart of Genero’s business model. We believe that by providing brands with access to a truly diverse network of creatives all over the world, we are having a positive impact on the creative and advertising industry.
